A small seaplane, Cessna Caravan C208, flying with 10 people on board made an emergency landing in East River on Friday evening. No injuries have been reported in the incident.
Among the ten people on board was television producer Bill Lawrence of “Spin City” and “Scrubs”.
According to FDNY Deputy Assistant Chief Michael Gala, all the ten people were rescued by NYPD Harbour Unit boat, who were sitting in the plane wearing life jacket after it made the emergency landing in water.
Among the 10 people were one pilot and nine passengers, including Lawrence, who described the small seaplane, Cessna Caravan C208, as “our” plane.
It seems, Bill Lawrence didn’t really got scared by the incident as he made a video of himself on board the plane as it makes the emergency landing.
The video along with photos were posted on social media, in which some passengers can be seen sitting on the pontoon of the aircraft as they wait for the rescue service.
Family of Lawrence was with him on the seaplane. He stated in a photo “daughter is much more casual”. He described another photo as “going to drink tequila continuously. #lucky”.
Lawrence has created, produced and written a number of famous shows, including “Friends”, “Cougar Town”, Spin City”, “Scrubs” and “Boys Meet World”.
The seaplane was taking off from SkyPort Marina at East 23rd Street and was scheduled to fly to East Hampton Airport. According to officials, the airplane was having trouble taking off.
It hit the water when it made the third attempt for take off and fractured three struts on its left side. Pontoons are attached to the airplane through struts.
Officials added that, the Cessna Caravan C208 started to list with three broken struts and the takeoff was aborted by the pilot and it made a hard water landing in the water.
Lawrence described to a news channel that everything happened quite quickly. They were in the air for some time, came back down, pulled up again, and tried to keep flying. The flotation came off when they landed next time.
Lawrence’s daughter, Charlotte, described those few seconds as quite dramatic.
A woman called Kendall who was also on the Cessna Caravan C208 started crying.
None of the 10 passengers on board took the medical treatment after they were taken to SkyPort Marina. NYPD Lt. Joe Grasso described the rescue work smooth and none of the passengers even got wet.
National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the accident.
As per official records, the Cessna Caravan C208 is registered with Tailwind Air, LLC. The company provides shuttle service out to the Hamptons and across the northeast.

In the past 36 hours, this is the third unusual landing from an aircraft in the region.
