Florida Institute of Technology’s College of Aeronautics has come out with a doctorate degree program in aviation.
The program is designed for aviation professionals who want to advance their career and for aviation academics looking for a professional terminal degree.
The Doctor of Aviation or Av. D. from Florida Tech is a residency free, 100% online aviation doctoral degree which can be pursued from anywhere, according to college officials.
This research based, year round program will start from Fall 2017 semester and can be completed in three years. In the inaugural class only ten students will be admitted.
The complete course comprises of a minimum of 42 semester credit hours that are divided in two main categories: A core course of 24 hours consisting of statistics, research design and aviation content courses, and a minimum of 18 semester credit hours for dissertation research.
According to Deam Korhan Oyman, this is a historic moment for the Florida Tech College of Aeronautics. Aviation professionals who are looking for a doctorate in aviation will be able to complete the Av. D program without taking a break from their career.
Florida Institute of Technology already has a resident-only Ph.D. Program in aviation sciences and the online Av.D. Program complements it. The resident-only program gives students the option to pursue a professional doctorate (Av.D.) and an academic doctorate (Ph.D.) in aviation.
The major difference between the two programs is one the emphasis on dissertation. In place of being theory centric, as in the case of Ph.D. Program, the Av.D. Program will be more research based will usually involve practical field problem oriented for industry / business practitioners.
