Jeppesen and ForeFlight Collaborate on Mobile Charting

This collaboration is between two heavyweights in the aviation industry, something which the pilots were looking for long. Jeppesen and ForeFlight made an announcement that customers will now be able to see Jeppesen approach charts and navigation data in the popular mobile app from ForeFlight.

The capabilities and content of both the companies will come together with this strategic alliance. Many functionalities and features of the ForeFlight app will merge with the FliteDeck Pro app from Jeppesen which is used by large flight departments and airlines.

According to Tyson Weihs, co-founder and CEO, ForeFlight, since a long time pilots have been asking as to when they will get Jeppesen navigation data and charts on ForeFlight. This announcement has answered their query.

From the beginning of this summer, all subscribers of ForeFlight will be able to see global navigation, terrain and obstacle data of Jeppesen on the Mobile app from ForeFlight as part of their normal subscription.

ForeFlight’s individual plans subscribers will also be able to connect their Jeppesen licenses in the ForeFlight Mobile and they can purchase and use worldwide Jeppesen charts inside the app.

This cockpit solution is also available for general aviation pilots, who have the option of ForeFlight Mobile or Jeppesen Mobile FliteDeck.

Meanwhile, subscribers of ForeFlight business plans will buy chart coverage from Jeppesen and will connect them to their ForeFlight subscription which can be used inside the Mobile app from ForeFlight.

Annual subscription rate for the ForeFlight Mobile app starts from $99.99. When Jeppesen charts are added to ForeFlight for the continental US, the annual subscription price will increase by $199.

Jeppesen and ForeFlight also plan to work on a next-generation release of FliteDeck Pro 4.0 for Windows and iOS, expected to be released next January. This release will come out with a combination of capabilities that pilots are familiar in ForeFlight Mobile and FlightDeck Pro.

The companies will work with the customers of FliteDeck Pro to make sure the impact of training is minimized. Customers of FliteDeck Pro will continue to receive content and application updates from Jeppesen.

According to Ken Sain, Jeppesen’s chief operating officer, this collaboration brings together the world-class aeronautical data from Jeppesen with the unmatched advanced technology from ForeFlight. It will set up new benchmark for delivering flight information, navigation and operational solutions with speed and consistency to every segment in aviation, be it world’s largest airlines or recreational pilots.
